The Minister for European Affairs of Montenegro, Maida Gorcevic, declared today that they will support Kosovo for membership in the Council of Europe in May.
While speaking about the vote against Montenegro in the Committee for Foreign Policy in the Council of Europe on Wednesday, she emphasized that this was the position of a member of parliament, but not of the government.
This is what she said after signing the agreement for the IPA III Cross-border Cooperation Programme Montenegro-Kosovo, with Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. The latter spoke about the importance of this agreement, which foresees a fund of 8.4 million euros.
In front of the media, Bislimi stated that Montenegro did not vote against Kosovo in the Council of Europe, but this vote was of an MP representing a political entity, which does not represent the official position of Podgorica.
He said that he does not consider Serbia’s vote against Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe to be a novelty, and he even emphasized that with this it has only done honor to Kosovo.
Even the Minister for European Affairs, Maida Gorcevic, emphasized that this vote does not speak for Montenegro’s attitude towards Kosovo, as she added that Kosovo will be supported in the Ministerial Council in May.
In this conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi also spoke about the signing of the agreement for the IPA III Cross-border Cooperation Programme Montenegro-Kosovo. He announced that the benefits from the fund will be provided through projects that are implemented in the Kosovo-Montenegro border areas.
Bislimi added that it is planned to establish a joint task force with the main office in Podgorica and another office in Pristina, which will supervise the implementation of the program in both countries.
Even the Minister for European Affairs of Montenegro, Majda Gorcevic, emphasized the importance of this agreement for the deepening of cooperation between the two countries.
