“Gjilan has three times more budget than the capital”, the mayors of Prishtina, Obiliq and Lipjan complain

On the day when the Assembly of Kosovo is considering the draft law on the budget for 2024 in the second reading, the mayor of the Municipality of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, that of the Municipality of Obiliq, Xhafer Gashi, as well as the mayor of Lipjan, Imri Ahemti, did not agree with the budget allocation made by the Government for the municipalities they manage. They said that the allocation of the budget was not fair, since according to them, this draft law is politically oriented.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Prishtina, Përparim Rama said that they are good in terms of finances and for this reason the central level has probably given priority to Gjilan.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Podujeva – Shpejtim Bulliqi said that he believes that the distribution of the budget by the Government has been done in a normal way, saying that they will request that any project be supported by the Government.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Lipjan, Imri Ahmenti has said that the budget allocation more for some municipalities, and for some less, is too open and that he does not believe that they will lead any complaints, except that they will continue with their own means.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Obiliq – Xhafer Gashi has said that for this year, our municipality has spent the budget almost in total, and he added that for the budget of 2024, they will request a meeting with the central level institutions, since the allocated budget is not sufficient.

Otherwise, the draft budget of the Government in the amount of over 3.3 billion is being reviewed today in the second reading by the Assembly of Kosovo, where 742 million euros have been foreseen for the municipalities.
