Kosovo meets the prerequisites to apply for the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union, Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gërvalla said. According to her, by the end of this year they will choose the appropriate moment to formally submit such an application. The Foreign Minister also said that Kosovo is on the right path towards the Council of Europe, for which she expressed optimism that after the autumn they can take other formal steps in this direction.
Gërvalla has said that with the completion of most of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Kosovo fulfills the basic prerequisite of applying for the status of a candidate country in the European Union.
She has added that every application will be accompanied by a lot of work and negotiations through which Kosovo unexpectedly pushed its demands.
