GAP: The number of students has dropped by 26 percent

For ten years in Kosovo, the number of students has dropped by 26 percent. Based on data for 19 municipalities, there are 340 classes with five or fewer students and 642 classes with less than ten students. Despite the small number of students, during this period there was an increase in the number of teachers by 2 percent.

This is stated in the report of the GAP Institute, on the topic “Surplus schools? Restructuring the network of pre-university educational institutions”. The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) has requested that a detailed study be conducted as soon as possible for the reorganization of schools with few students, as provided in the memorandum signed with the Municipality of Kamenica.
