The Parliament of Kosovo, with 106 votes in favor and one abstention, on December 14, 2018 approved three laws that change the mandate of the Kosovo Security Force in the Kosovo Army, but without changing its name.
The laws that were approved were the Draft Law for the Ministry of Defense, the Draft Law for the Kosovo Security Force and the Draft Law for service in the Kosovo Security Force. Amendments to the laws were voted on one by one.
Serbian MPs in the Parliament of Kosovo did not participate in the session. They have opposed the formation of the Kosovo Army.
The leaders of Kosovo’s institutions described the voting and approval of laws for the army as “a historic day and one of the most important decisions since the declaration of independence of Kosovo in 2008”./KosovaPress/
