EULEX’s concerns: Opening the Bridge could have serious security implications

The head of the EULEX mission in Kosovo, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, declares that the security situation in the country is fragile and that there are concerns about possible tensions. According to him, the aggression in Banjska proved the fragility and vulnerability of the country, for which he says that there should be special attention from the institutions. The EULEX mission expects Serbia to hold responsible those who committed the aggression in Banjska.

In the interview for KosovaPress, Barbano also talks about the initiative to open the Ibri Bridge, which he considers to have serious security implications.

Banjska of Zveçan should have special attention, he adds. The head of the EULEX mission says that they are doing patrols in the north of the country, also that they are ready to react at the request of the Kosovo authorities.

While commenting on the Serbian aggression in Banjska of Zveçan, the head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Giovanni Pietro Barbano, expects that Serbia will hold accountable those who perpetrated the aggression.

He does not comment on the declarations of local institutions about Serbian military bases on the border with Kosovo, but adds that this belongs to KFOR.

He considers the boycott of the Serbs in the four municipalities in the north of the country in the electoral process for the dismissal or not of the mayors to be an unfortunate situation.

Barbano declares that they are in constant contact with security institutions, even though they respect the independence of Kosovo’s institutions.

The initiative for the opening of the Ibri Bridge in Mitrovica, he declares, should be addressed within the framework of the dialogue.

In the interview for KosovaPress, the head of the EULEX, Barbano says that there is improvement and development in the institutions of justice.
