Electronic bracelets; the experts: 600,000 euros are not enough, enforcement of the law is necessary

The Government of Kosovo long ago allocated 600 thousand euros for the “Electronic Monitoring System” project for the year 2023, which means the purchase of electronic bracelets and the start of the implementation of the Law on electronic surveillance for persons whose movement is restricted by court decision. However, this amount is considered insufficient. The law on electronic surveillance came into force 8 years ago, but its implementation has been lacking due to lack of electronic links, software, operating room and staff training.

The researcher of the Fol Movement, Albana Hasani, considers that the financial amount allocated for the electronic monitoring system is insufficient. According to her, for the efficient operation of this program, software maintenance is also needed, which also has costs.
