The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Liza Gashi, said that KosovaPress News Agency has raised the level of journalism in Kosovo.
Gashi, at the international conference “Freedom of Speech Borders”, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of KosovaPress News Agency, said that the latter in 1999, when the war was happening in Kosovo, appeared as a champion of the truth and symbol of resistance.
“In January 1999, while the war was going on in Kosovo, KosovaPress emerged as a champion of the truth and a symbol of the resistance of the population in Kosovo. During the past quarter of a century, Kosovo has gone through many state-building challenges, but KosovaPress has remained a stable partner for the state and our developing society. I can imagine how the internal efforts in building independent media, while the state is also being built, show the reality of what we have experienced as a state. This is evidence that KosovaPress should be praised for its work and professionalism. Since its beginnings, KosovaPress has been a serious agency in Kosovo and the region”, she said.
She also praised KosovaPress for the fight against disinformation, while saying that KosovaPress’ membership in the European Alliance of News Agencies EANA shows its seriousness.
“Through the work that KosovaPress has done, not only inside Kosovo but also outside it, being part of the European Alliance of News Agencies and that of the Western Balkans, KosovaPress has raised the level of journalism in Kosovo”, she said.
Meanwhile, she also mentioned the challenges that Kosovo is facing with what she called misinformation campaigns.
“Kosovo is facing big challenges today, these are related to misinformation campaigns and I think we are not alone in this case. There are many countries in the world that suffer and face the same problems”, said Deputy Minister Gashi.
