The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, was on Tuesday the host of the conference of donors for stable housing for families of non-majority communities returned to Kosovo.
He said that the purpose of the conference is to work together with international partners towards a sustainable solution for 60 families of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities returned from North Macedonia and Montenegro.
Kurti mentioned the Municipality of Gjilan and Ferizaj as an option for finding housing for these families.
He said that the housing of the most vulnerable families in Kosovo is his priority, while he added the commitment of the executive during this term for the construction and renovation of houses of non-majority communities.
Such an initiative was welcomed by the Minister for Return and Communities, Nenad Rashiq, who emphasized his ambitions for a new project called “Urban Return”. He said that through it, a more stable housing will be provided for all families of non-majority communities returned to Kosovo.
On the other hand, although he called this conference necessary, the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, requested that residences be found for these 60 families in order not to repeat the case of Plemetin village in Obiliq.
He said that the location in Gjilan and Ferizaj should not be a construction only for the families of the non-majority communities, but also for the Albanian families who need a residence in order to unite all the communities.
Meanwhile, the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Kosovo, Nicholas Abbott, said that the integration of non-majority communities is a challenging process, however there must be government support to ensure that they have the same support in housing, health care, and education.
“Integrating these people is always a challenging process and it doesn’t get easier with time, but that doesn’t mean we won’t do anything. It is very important that we work together and help those who want to return to Kosovo and make sure that they have all the support, health care, and education”, said Abbott.
The municipal officials from Ferizaj and Gjilan also emphasized the commitment to the realization of this project. /KosovaPress/
