Call for reforms, tourism businesses demand the reduction of VAT

Administrative guidelines, poor infrastructure, high VAT, are just some of the problems that businesses are facing.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Hospitality and Tourism of Kosovo (CHTK) – Department of stars of the entertainment industry, Hysen Sogojeva at a press conference, has emphasized that Kosovo is the only country in the region that pays 18 percent VAT on accommodation, which he said is unfair for businesses.

Sogojeva has mentioned some other factors that are causing problems in this direction.

Meanwhile, the director of the department of stars of the entertainment industry, Afrim Muqiqi, has informed that entertainment is one of the most regular tax payers. As for the criticism that the stars of the entertainment industry do not pay, he said that last year alone, the entertainment industry paid over 2 and a half million euros in tax.

On the other hand, the executive director of the Chamber, Sadik Gashi, stated that the issue of fiscal coupons remains problematic for businesses. According to him, this should be regulated as it is in other countries of the region, there should be a total and not an invoice for each order.

Meanwhile, as regards the issue of whether the devices for measuring noise from gastronomy establishments are being respected, Muqiqi has emphasized that this should be regulated by the municipal assemblies, and that businesses are not always to blame.
