The Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi stated that the five non-recognizing states are an obstacle for Kosovo to obtain the status of a candidate country in the European Union. According to him, there is frustration within the European Commission that consensus is not being reached, for which he added that it is these countries that are not achieving such a thing. After the meeting of the Committee for European Integration, he emphasized that the race for Kosovo to join the EU is not the same as compared to other countries in the region.
In front of the media, Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi said that Kosovo is better prepared than any country in the Western Balkans to receive the status of a candidate country in the European Union.
However, Bislimi emphasized that there are rumors within the European Commission that if Kosovo were to compete under the same conditions as other countries in the region, it would be the first country to receive the status of a full member of the EU.
Further, Bislimi added that Kosovo has met all the criteria for membership in the Council of Europe, but then there were diverted requests.
