The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has decided that Wednesday, July 3, 2024, will be declared a day of national mourning, in honor of the colossus of Albanian letters, the world-famous Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare.
“The state mourning will be held on Wednesday, the day when the deceased Ismail Kadare is also buried, meanwhile the State Protocol is charged to undertake all the necessary actions for the implementation of this decision”, reads the announcement.
President Osmani, in June of last year, awarded the writer Ismail Kadare with the order “Hasan Prishtina”, among the highest Orders given by the Republic of Kosovo to the most outstanding personalities of the nation. Meanwhile, in August, the President announced the decree by which the world-famous Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, was granted the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo.
On July 1, 2024, the writer Ismail Kadare passed away. Albania has declared a day of mourning yesterday and today. Meanwhile, today the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo holds a commemorative meeting in honor of the work of the writer, Ismail Kadare.
Today, a state farewell ceremony is also held in Tirana in honor of the outstanding personality of Albanian letters, Ismail Kadare.
