The authorities in the country have managed to identify 175 child beggars in eight months. Organizations that care about children’s rights ask institutions to do more to remove children from the streets, while authorities ask citizens not to give money to children.
The Kosovo Police, through a written response, confirmed the exact number of child beggars but, according to statistics, fewer have been identified this year compared to the same period last year.
“The police during the performance of their duties, in the period January-August 2022, identified 175 child beggars. In the time period January-August 2021, 191 child beggars have been identified”, the police response states.
Bukureza Surdulli from the Coalition of NGOs for the Protection of Children (KOMF), stated for KosovaPress that child beggars on the streets face other dangers as well.
