Tonight, in a silent manifestation, Sebahate Morina, 44 years old, will be remembered, who on March 14 in Prishtina was killed by Lulzim Sopi, her ex-husband. The silent commemorative event will be held in “Skënderbe” square, in front of the Government of Kosovo, starting at 18:00, or on the balconies of flats, to express grief and anger by lighting candles and placing flowers in memory of Sebahate Morina, but also to demand accountability from the Kosovo Police, the State Prosecutor and the Government of Kosovo.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and due to the preventive measures, that have closed the victims with their perpetrators, in Kosovo we have seen a massive increase in reported cases of domestic violence. In the first 11 months of 2020 alone, 2,000 more cases were reported than in 2019.
