The now traditional ‘Miners’ Week’ event began today in Stanterg, in commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the historic Trepca miners’ strike, which shook the foundations of the then Yugoslav state.

Present at this event were high state and municipal authorities, heads of institutions, former participants in the glorious strike, miners, etc.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that the miners’ demands at the time were political to protect Kosovo from oppressive and discriminatory policies by Serbia. According to him, Trepca is a living force for overall development and that with concrete steps it is taking its rightful place in our Kosovo economy.

Meanwhile, Faton Ahmeti, acting CEO of the Trepca company, said that the miners' strike at that time was not just a union act, but a powerful message about the indomitable will of the people of Kosovo to live free and equal.
