The acting director of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), Avni Kastrati, has stated that the number of Serbs registered in the population registration process, which ended in May of this year, is about 36,000 but a part of this community has boycotted the process.

In an interview for KosovaPress, Kastrati warns of fines for all those who have refused to be part of the registration process, while speaking for the Serbian community, he says that those who did not register were pressured.

Although the registration process was postponed for one more week, Kastrati says that only a small number of citizens took advantage of this right.

Kastrati also announced the percentage of the population that remained unregistered according to preliminary data.

Kastrati says that Kosovo will have a little over 1.6 million inhabitants, reiterating that all those who refused will be fined.

Kosovo has 1,586,659 resident inhabitants according to the preliminary data of KAS. The acting director of KAS says that the final data of the population census is planned to be published towards the end of this year and it is not expected that there will be major differences from the preliminary data.
