Even 25 years after liberation, Kosovo still does not have an official date when the nation's martyrs who fell in the last war and previous wars for liberation are honored. National Martyrs' Day does not appear in the official state calendar.

May 5 is the day of the nation's martyrs, but in Kosovo it is not marked at the institutional level. This day was only mentioned in a post by the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, but not by the President, Vjosa Osmani, nor the Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, and none of them laid wreaths or paid homage to the martyrs' cemeteries.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, made a post on May 5 on social networks, in the late afternoon, emphasizing that this date is the day of the martyrs of the Albanian nation, fallen anywhere and anytime throughout history. "The target trophy and the trophy won by the martyrs is our freedom, as an opportunity for self-determination and progress", he wrote.

The chairman of the Committee for Public Administration, Valon Ramadani, tells KosovaPress that the change in the law is being conditioned by the Serbian List.

Meanwhile, Xhavit Jashari from the War Veterans Association of the Kosovo Liberation Army, says for KosovaPress, that this day should be defined as the day of the martyrs of the Albanian nation.

This year marks 25 years since the liberation of Kosovo from the Serbian aggressor. And this day, May 5, was marked only by some municipalities. Even the organizations that emerged from the war, in cooperation with some municipalities, paid homage to the cemeteries of the martyrs and organized various academies on May 5, however, not in all municipalities.

Martyrs' Day originates on May 5, 1942, when Qemal Stafa was killed, who with his activity became a symbol of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War.

The status of the Martyr of the Motherland in Albania includes the martyrs of all historical periods, even those who fell in the years 1997-1999, in Albania and in the Liberation War of Kosovo.

The same date is being requested to be made official in Kosovo. /KosovaPress/
