The United Kingdom has strongly condemned statements by Serbian Minister for Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snezana Paunovic, which included references to the ethnic cleansing of Albanians in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement by a spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), shared by the British Embassy in Pristina, the comments were described as \u201cutterly abhorrent\u201d and said to have no place in today\u2019s society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the statement, at a time when Western Balkan countries are focused on building a peaceful, stable and multi-ethnic future, such remarks reopen divisions from the past and fuel tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UK stressed that political leaders with responsibility must clearly and unequivocally reject such language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reaction also noted that the United Kingdom has taken into account Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107\u2019s distancing himself from Minister Paunovi\u0107\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Serbian Minister Snezana Paunovic said that her statement about the \u201cethnic cleansing of Kosovo\u201d had been taken out of context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She apologized to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Government, saying they were \u201cneither guilty nor responsible,\u201d Euronews Serbia reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on Informer TV, Paunovic called it malicious that \u201conly seven seconds from the entire program\u201d were taken out and turned into a political issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
