{"id":83763,"date":"2026-05-28T10:03:52","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T10:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kosovapress.com\/eng\/admin\/?p=83763"},"modified":"2026-05-28T10:13:53","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T10:13:53","slug":"international-expert-serbia-may-use-russian-methods-in-the-june-7-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kosovapress.com\/eng\/admin\/international-expert-serbia-may-use-russian-methods-in-the-june-7-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"International expert: Serbia may use Russian methods in June 7 elections"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Hybrid Warfare Studies Institute \u201cOctopus\u201d organized the 2026 Forum on the theme \u201cElectoral Integrity Facing Hybrid Threats: Security Implications of Foreign Interference,\u201d where local and international experts discussed the risks posed by hybrid interference and disinformation in electoral processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director of the \u201cOctopus\u201d Institute, Arben Fetoshi, said that recent cases in Europe have demonstrated the serious consequences of hybrid interference and the importance of preventive measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed that neutralizing Serbia\u2019s interference in Kosovo\u2019s electoral processes is not only an institutional duty but also an important contribution to regional stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first session of the forum, former Chair of the Central Election Commission, Valdete Daka, stated that elections are a complex process that requires increased attention, including in terms of security during their organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to her, the Central Election Commission has been consistently faced with attempts of interference from Serbia, especially in the north of Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daka said that there have also been concerning pressures on Serb candidates who have not been part of the Serbian List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAll those who have represented the Serb community outside the Serbian List have been punished in various forms, including dismissal from work,\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the Kosovo Police, V\u00ebllaznim Sordolli said that the police are taking concrete actions to address electoral security challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that police investigators and prosecutors are deployed in the field before and during elections to respond immediately to any possible irregularities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, expert from Hibrid.info, Festim Rizanaj, spoke about disinformation narratives during election campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, some narratives are linked to claims of \u201cinstitutional terror,\u201d \u201cpolitical arrests,\u201d manipulation of the electoral process, and the influence of diaspora voting on election results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said these narratives in the Serbian language also penetrate the digital sphere and artificial intelligence systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the synchronized Russian-Serbian interference in elections, Dr. Iryna Synelnyk said that Russian interference in elections is a long-term strategy aimed at undermining democracy through disinformation and involvement in electoral processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She warned that there is a high probability that Serbia will attempt to influence the June 7 elections in Kosovo using methods similar to those used by Russia in other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to her, institutions must work more on preventing these attacks and raising citizens\u2019 awareness of hybrid threats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hybrid Warfare Studies Institute \u201cOctopus\u201d organized the 2026 Forum on the theme \u201cElectoral Integrity Facing Hybrid Threats: Security Implications of Foreign Interference,\u201d where local and international experts discussed the risks posed by hybrid interference and disinformation in electoral processes.
