After the failure of today\u2019s meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly of Kosovo, Speaker Albulena Haxhiu was asked about the issue of transitional salaries that former deputies of the last legislature are receiving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Haxhiu said that there is already a law regulating this matter, but in her view it does not make sense for someone who has not even served as an MP for six months to receive a transitional salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am very willing in the future, if there are initiatives that aim to change these legal arrangements that we have found in place for a long time, we are very open to discussing them. We can also take practices from other laws. If, as Speaker of the Assembly, you are not in that mandate for more than six months, you cannot enjoy the privileges of the Speaker of the Assembly, but not like this. Let\u2019s say, you were an MP for one month and then you receive a transitional salary for one year. I think that this is not fair, but it is based on the legislation in force,\u201d <\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She also spoke about recent political developments, where several former MPs from the Guxo List will run in the 7 June elections on the list of the Democratic League of Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Haxhiu said that it is the citizens of Kosovo who will evaluate the actions of political parties or individuals within political parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Now, we have an election day, so we are in an electoral process. Therefore, it is the citizens of Kosovo who will evaluate the actions of political parties or individuals within political parties. The same happened in December 2025, and the same will happen on 7 June 2026.
