Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, visited today the Association of Missing Persons in the Municipality of Mitrovica, where she met with family members and mothers of people forcibly disappeared during the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the visit, Haxhiu emphasized that in Mitrovica alone, 104 people remain missing, and there is still no information about their fate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of the Association of Missing Persons in Mitrovica, Gjyla Haziri, described the situation as alarming due to the number of people still missing, calling for increased pressure on Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe as family members are seeking justice. We call on the institutions of Kosovo to exert pressure on local actors, and for them to put pressure on the Serbian state so that justice comes to light. 104 in Mitrovica and 1,566 people still missing after 27 years\u2014this is a great tragedy for Kosovo. I\u2019m not saying the Government of Kosovo hasn\u2019t worked; they have done as much as they could, but I appeal to the international community to put more pressure on Serbia,\u201d<\/em> Haziri said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, family member Nazmije Sinani told KosovaPress about the disappearance of her brother during the war, calling at least for his burial place to be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy brother, Ilmi Cimili, disappeared in \u201999. He was 33 years old. Serbian forces entered the mountains, took my brother and three children. We found the children in Vllahi, but not my brother. Since that day, we have never known anything about him. I would appeal for measures to be taken, at least to know where his grave is,\u201d<\/em> Sinani said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The issue of forcibly disappeared persons remains one of the most painful post-war wounds in Kosovo.
