The election of the president depends on the will of the opposition, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Glauk Konjufca, as\u00a0reported by\u00a0KosovaPress.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Konjufca, who is also the official candidate of the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement for president, said he would withdraw his candidacy as soon as opposition parties propose a presidential candidate. According to him, the country could go to new elections if that is the will of the opposition parties. He also said that since Vet\u00ebvendosje did not propose Vjosa Osmani for a second presidential term, the opposition has not been sincere about electing the president and is instead calculating for new elections. However, Konjufca said that Prime Minister Albin Kurti will soon make a second attempt to meet the opposition to resolve the presidency issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that Vet\u00ebvendosje, having already proposed two presidential candidacies, cannot offer another consensual candidate, but that the opposition parties can do so and secure 66 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo far this has not happened because, let\u2019s say, the burden of proof falls more on the opposition to propose a name, while we would give our votes. That has been the idea. It is much easier for the opposition to propose names. As you know, the majority has 66 votes and could use them to resolve the issue of the president. I am saying that the moment the opposition finds a common president and proposes it to us, I would be very happy to withdraw my candidacy. But if that does not happen, and the candidacy is withdrawn, it does not solve the problem,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked why they are not sending an official invitation to the Democratic Party of Kosovo regarding the presidency issue, he was critical of the party led by Bedri Hamza, saying they are not sincere about a possible solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the agreement proposed by the PDK for the presidency does not exist anywhere in the world, where 66 votes are guaranteed blindly without knowing the proposed candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that PDK could propose names for president that would be unacceptable for Vet\u00ebvendosje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite meetings with the Democratic League of Kosovo, he said that Lumir Abdixhiku has not proposed a presidential name that could be considered by Vet\u00ebvendosje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs for LDK, I don\u2019t believe we have reached a name from their side that would become public and that all 15 deputies would stand behind. We have not, but if we had, we would consider it in the leadership of Vet\u00ebvendosje and I believe we would find a solution,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the opposition changed its approach to the presidency once Vet\u00ebvendosje did not nominate Vjosa Osmani for a second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the opposition is calculating that Osmani\u2019s involvement in politics would weaken Vet\u00ebvendosje electorally, but he left open the possibility of renewed cooperation with Osmani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe moment Vjosa Osmani was not a proposal from Vet\u00ebvendosje, the opposition\u2019s calculation completely changed. The opposition wants to include her as a new element in our political scene, and they calculate that she would lower Vet\u00ebvendosje\u2019s percentage. Since then there have been no sincere proposals. This is more opposition calculation for elections. It is visible from afar… Always in cooperation with Mrs. Osmani,\u201d <\/em>he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, Konjufca said that new elections could be called if that is the will of the opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
