Institutional stability through the election of the president was called for in the parliamentary Committee on European Integration ahead of a planned discussion with ambassadors of European Union member states on Kosovo\u2019s European path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During Wednesday\u2019s discussion on the committee\u2019s work plan, concerns were raised among MPs about how long the tenth legislature will last, following political disagreements over the election of the president. With 27 days remaining within the constitutional deadline to elect the head of state, MPs who are members of the committee said they hope a solution will be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Committee chair and Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Hykmete Bajrami expressed skepticism that ambassadors would respond positively to the committee\u2019s invitation for discussion, arguing that institutional stability is a prerequisite for every step in the integration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAmbassadors will be invited after we elect the president. Honestly, I don\u2019t even believe they will visit us. Institutional stability is almost a prerequisite for every step in European integration. I truly hope we have managed to reach a solution\u2026 It is the priority above all priorities, because when we plan our work, none of us are certain, given the deadlock that occurred last month and the fact that the Assembly of Kosovo has not been active since December 2024. This is a concern, because if we do not have concrete steps, how long will the lifespan of this legislature be? I fear that even our invitation looks unserious,\u201d <\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, MP Liza Gashi of the ruling Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement said they are \u201copen to electing the president.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Responding to the majority MP, Hykmete Bajrami initially said she hopes all MPs will manage to find a solution for the presidency, but later modified her statement, addressing the LVV MP by saying she hoped they would be able to come up with a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She also spoke about the committee\u2019s work, stressing the need for Kosovo\u2019s chief EU negotiator, Jeton Zulfaj, to report to the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A similar request was made by AAK MP Time Kadrijaj, who stressed the need for greater transparency in the integration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat is important is that the chief negotiator must be transparent and come before the committee to report, perhaps even before negotiations begin, and make known the agenda of discussions for any meetings held, whether bilateral or trilateral in Brussels,\u201d <\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the discussion, MPs approved the committee\u2019s work agenda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Institutional stability through the election of the president was called for in the parliamentary Committee on European Integration ahead of a planned discussion with ambassadors of European Union member states on Kosovo\u2019s European path.
