Member of Parliament and leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, questioned the parliamentary majority in the Kosovo Assembly regarding the urgency of approving the budget through accelerated procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In today\u2019s session of the Assembly, he said that two things come to mind regarding this urgency: the inability to have debate in the Assembly and its possible connection to the issue of electing the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t understand why there is such a great urgency. We do not want and do not allow delays, but why this urgency? Only two reasons come to mind. First, to prevent deputies from expressing their criticisms and proposing alternatives through debate. Second, I don\u2019t want to believe that this is about the country needing institutions and stability. I don\u2019t want to believe this issue is linked to the election of the president or president\u2019s office,\u201d <\/em>he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hamza described the 2026 budget as managing the status quo, noting that it also does not reflect any of Prime Minister Albin Kurti\u2019s promises presented in his exposition on February 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is a budget that manages the status quo. This is the result of increased operational expenditures as well as transfers and subsidies. This boosts consumption in the short term, but the increase in recurrent expenditures in the long term reduces the space for capital investments. These increased expenditures on subsidies and transfers limit fiscal space for future periods and will certainly impact the productive and export base. It is evident that there is a lack of investments in strategic sectors in Kosovo\u2026 Most of them are not reflected in this budget. They are not reflected in 2026 or in the coming years.
