The Mediterranean Games \u201cPrishtina 2030\u201d (the 21st edition of the event) will feature an expanded program with 24 competitive sports, including classic Olympic sports such as athletics, swimming, judo, boxing, volleyball, as well as other sports like 3\u00d73 basketball, futsal (replacing traditional U21 football), and the possibility of adding sports like Baseball5, Canoe Sprint, or Kickboxing depending on final approval from the organizers. This makes the program much more dynamic and comprehensive than in previous editions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To prepare for the Games, major investments in sports infrastructure in Kosovo are planned. This includes the construction of a modern national stadium that will host the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as new sports facilities in several cities (e.g., Peja, Ferizaj, Prizren, and Vushtrri). Plans also include sports halls, semi-Olympic swimming pools, and upgrades to existing facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One important element of the preparations is the transformation of the Student Center in Pristina into an accommodation hub for thousands of athletes, with around 4,500 beds and new facilities, as well as renovations to the kitchen and other service areas. This is a long-term investment that will continue to be used after the Games conclude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since Kosovo has no access to the sea, for sports such as sailing, rowing, or other water-based maritime sports, the country has reached a cooperation agreement with Albania, where the sea events will take place on the coast\u2014a unique initiative and a historic innovation for this edition of the Mediterranean Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2030 edition is expected to host around 3,500 to 5,000 athletes from 26 countries in the Mediterranean region, making it the largest sporting event Kosovo has ever organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
