In Kosovo, the second round of local elections is being held in 18 municipalities, monitored by both local and international observers accredited by the Central Election Commission (CEC). Observers have assessed that the voting process so far has generally been going well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ambassador of Peace Tahir Shabani told KosovaPress that they are monitoring the process in several areas where the runoff is taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the voting process has been proceeding smoothly so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been a good process, positively evaluated from abroad and certified by the CEC. We have covered several geographical areas \u2014 Prishtina, Fush\u00eb Kosov\u00eb, Obiliq, and are continuing to Gjilan and Viti. Based on the situation and the time we have, we may expand to other areas as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shabani did not report any irregularities but said that an official statement may be issued later. However, he mentioned the need for better training for election staff. According to him, the CEC should invest more in this aspect \u2014 not only focusing on main urban areas, but also on rural zones that require more preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt has been a good process, although in some areas we encountered difficulties. There is a lack of training and staff, so the CEC should contribute more in this regard, not focusing only on major areas but also paying attention to rural ones that need preparation. Also, the schedule and polling stations must be respected,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was accompanied by\u00a0Eric Leyvraz, former president of the Parliament of Geneva, who is also observing the electoral process in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe were here three weeks ago to observe the first round. We visited many places and saw that in all of them the organization was very good, even though not identical everywhere \u2014 which is a good sign. There were also many young people participating, which is also positive. Now we are going to observe the second round, which we already saw is going well; we will now see what is happening in Gjilan and Viti. I have not witnessed any irregularities so far. I think people are working very seriously and are committed to this process, and I believe a good level has been reached for this round,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
