After casting his vote at the Faculty of Law in Prishtina, he called on all citizens to participate and take part in decision-making for the election of municipal mayors.

He told the media that he hopes everything will go smoothly today.

“Although it’s Sunday, I believe that today we all woke up early in the morning — it’s a good day for democracy and free will. The Republic of Kosovo is holding the second round of elections, that is, the runoff in 18 municipalities of our country. I just voted here in Prishtina, in the building of the Faculty of Law at the University of Prishtina ‘Hasan Prishtina.’ I call on all citizens with the right to vote to take the opportunity and become participants and decision-makers for the election of their municipal mayors and thus for the next four-year term, as residents of the municipalities of the Republic. Everything will go well — the CEC has made the necessary preparations, and all commissioners and observers are already at the polling centers,” said Kurti.

Albin Kurti also stated that during this campaign, he worked in three shifts. He said this when asked whether he had stayed in Mitrovica last night, adding that he had tried to observe the election preparations.

“During this campaign, I have worked in three shifts, all across the municipalities of Kosovo, and I have tried to monitor the election preparations, because municipal, local elections are no less important than parliamentary, central ones — since the citizens of the Republic are also residents of municipalities. It is extremely important, for the welfare, dignity, and quality of life in general, what kind of mayors the municipalities will have. The ballot paper was simple, it had only two names, one of whom will definitely become mayor by this evening, so once again I invite citizens to exercise their democratic right to elect their municipal mayor. The 18 municipalities where the runoff elections are being held today represent less than half of Kosovo, but if you look at which municipalities they are, it’s clear that they include over 80 percent of the Republic’s population,” said Kurti.

In Prishtina, more than 222,000 citizens have the right to vote. Meanwhile, outside Kosovo, over 1,700 citizens are eligible to vote in the second round of elections.

In Prishtina, the runoff race for the local elections is taking place between Përparim Rama of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and Hajrulla Çeku of the Vetëvendosje Movement.

Today, the mayoral races are being held in 18 municipalities across Kosovo.

In these municipalities where the second round of the local elections is being held today, voting takes place in 525 polling centers with a total of 1,648 polling stations — of which 507 centers with 1,628 polling stations are for regular voting, and 18 centers (one in each municipality in the runoff) with 20 polling stations are for conditional voting.

The total number of citizens eligible to vote in these 18 municipalities is 1,316,672.

The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, emphasized that today is a good day for democracy and free will.
