Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that Serbia\u2019s interference in the electoral process in Kosovo is more severe than Russia\u2019s in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This statement from Kurti comes after the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, promised 400 jobs for Serbs in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In today\u2019s session of the acting government, Kurti said that attempts to influence voters through financial incentives, conditioning and blackmail of social benefits, and statements by Serbian state officials that only the Serbian List protects Serbia in Kosovo \u2014 as recently stated by the former Serbian Prime Minister and also by President Vu\u010di\u0107 himself \u2014 are repeated methods of Serbia\u2019s interference in Kosovo\u2019s electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Kurti said that interference in the elections of other states constitutes a form of undermining democracy and sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is no other way to classify them except as interference in the municipal elections of October in the Republic of Kosovo. Promises of jobs, attempts to influence through financial incentives, conditioning and blackmail of social benefits, and statements by Serbian state officials that only the Serbian List protects Serbia in Kosovo \u2014 as recently made by the former Serbian Prime Minister and also by President Vu\u010di\u0107 himself \u2014 are repeated methods of Serbia\u2019s interference in Kosovo\u2019s electoral process. The EU Election Observation Mission in the parliamentary elections on 9 February 2025 had documented Serbia\u2019s interference in our elections. Interference in the elections of other states is a form of undermining the democracy and sovereignty of that state,\u201d said Kurti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kurti added that the EU Election Observation Mission in the 9 February parliamentary elections had documented Serbia\u2019s interference, and according to him, the reason Serbia has not changed its behavior is that it has faced no consequences from the EU for this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called on the EU to condemn Serbia\u2019s interference in Kosovo\u2019s democratic elections and to sanction it for actions that violate the principles of good neighborliness and the basic Brussels agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSerbia has faced no consequences from the European Union, which is why it has not changed its behavior. The interference Serbia is now carrying out in Kosovo\u2019s elections is even more severe than Russia\u2019s in Europe. We call on the EU to condemn the official Belgrade\u2019s interference in Kosovo\u2019s democratic elections and to sanction Serbia for actions that violate the principles of good neighborliness and breach the basic Brussels agreement,\u201d said Kurti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A day earlier, Vu\u010di\u0107, through electoral manipulation, involved himself in the local elections in Kosovo to be held on 12 October, in which the Serbian List \u2014 an extension of his regime \u2014 is running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
