{"id":76245,"date":"2025-08-18T09:14:25","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T09:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kosovapress.com\/eng\/admin\/?p=76245"},"modified":"2025-08-18T09:14:26","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T09:14:26","slug":"candidates-awaiting-cec-decision-elezi-we-are-in-the-process-of-verification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kosovapress.com\/eng\/admin\/candidates-awaiting-cec-decision-elezi-we-are-in-the-process-of-verification\/","title":{"rendered":"Candidates awaiting CEC decision, Elezi: We are in the process of verification"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Out of 104 political entities that requested the Central Election Commission (CEC) to certify their candidates for participation in the local elections, 46 others with multiple candidates are still awaiting a decision from this institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among them are the major parliamentary parties, which have requested certification of candidates who will compete in almost all municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi told\u00a0KosovaPress\u00a0that the CEC is continuing the certification process and this week is expected to decide on the remaining part, which in fact represents the largest number of candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe CEC has not yet reviewed 46 political entities, of which 33 are political parties, two coalitions, one citizens\u2019 initiative, and eight independent candidates. After receiving these applications, legal steps were taken in cooperation with various state institutions to verify the eligibility of candidates. Once this legal obligation is fulfilled, the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Control of Political Entities will prepare recommendations and present them at the CEC meeting, where CEC members will make decisions regarding these applications,\u201d<\/em> said Elezi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the past week, the CEC managed to certify 58 political entities, while two citizens\u2019 initiatives were rejected. According to CEC data, the number of candidates certified so far and who will take part in the election race is over 500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOut of 104 applicant entities, so far the CEC has certified 58 political entities, of which 31 are citizens\u2019 initiatives and 27 are independent candidates. The total number of candidates representing these political entities is 510, of which 34 candidates for mayor and 476 for municipal assembly members. From the reviews conducted so far, the CEC has not certified two citizens\u2019 initiatives due to objections raised at the CEC public meeting,\u201d Elezi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Article 30 of the Law on General Elections, a person cannot be certified as a candidate if he or she is an official with special status under the current Law on Public Officials, a member of the foreign service and diplomatic representatives, the chairperson or member of the CEC or the Municipal Election Commission, an ECAP (Election Complaints and Appeals Panel) official, has been barred from candidacy by court decision, including an ECAP ruling, has been convicted within the last three years by a final court judgment for a criminal offense with one or more years of effective imprisonment, has failed to pay a fine imposed by the ECAP or CEC, or has failed to comply with any ECAP order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citizens\u2019 Initiative \u201cLidhja e Prishtin\u00ebs\u201d (League of Pristina) did not receive enough votes due to objections from the Democratic League of Kosovo that it resembled its own name, while the \u201cMovement for the Union of Albanians\u201d was rejected because of a spelling error, which according to the CEC should have been written as \u201cShqiptar\u00ebve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local elections in Kosovo will be held on\u00a0October 12.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Out of 104 political entities that requested the Central Election Commission (CEC) to certify their candidates for participation in the local elections, 46 others with multiple candidates are still awaiting a decision from this institution.
