The Kosovo Assembly has failed to convene for the fiftieth time, as of Monday, July 21. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee for the secret ballot vote for the Assembly Speaker \u2014 a request made by the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement \u2014 once again did not receive the necessary votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only 53 MPs voted in favor of forming the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The session chair, Avni Dehari from Vet\u00ebvendosje, once again did not allow MPs to deliver speeches from the Assembly podium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, at 11:00 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, only five days remain until the deadline set by the Constitutional Court for the constitution of the Assembly \u2014 July 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday, July 19, the leader of Vet\u00ebvendosje, Albin Kurti, and the leader of the Social Democratic Initiative (Nisma), Fatmir Limaj, held a meeting in an effort to find a way out of the political deadlock. However, the meeting concluded without any agreement that would pave the way for the formation of new institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These developments come as July 26 approaches \u2014 the deadline set by the Constitutional Court for the constitution of the ninth legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kosovo held parliamentary elections on February 9, but the Assembly has yet to be constituted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The process is stuck at the election of the Speaker of the Assembly, as the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement, in coalition with Guxo and Alternativa, has been unable to secure the required 61 votes to elect Albulena Haxhiu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are calling for a secret ballot vote, but both this procedure and Haxhiu\u2019s candidacy are being opposed by other parliamentary parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So far, President Vjosa Osmani has held joint and separate meetings with representatives of political parties in an attempt to resolve the crisis. However, there has been no breakthrough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
