Even though the stadium is one of Kosovo\u2019s official commitments for hosting the Mediterranean Games in 2030, the acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla \u00c7eku, recently stated that 2030 is not a final deadline for building the new stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is simply a proposal to open discussion within the Organizing Committee\u2026 I am proposing to discuss whether the construction of the national stadium should necessarily be related to the needs of the Mediterranean Games. I know that what we are doing now is necessary for the games and for us because we need it to develop our infrastructure, we can start it, but we do not have a deadline until 2030, we just have to focus on building it properly because it will be a giant project that requires a lot of finance, that requires finding sources of financing and requires good planning\u201d, emphasized \u00c7eku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the President of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Agim Ademi, told KosovaPress that a national stadium would strongly represent Kosovo\u2019s image, adding that he expects construction to begin soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“When it comes to stadiums, it is entirely the responsibility of the state. Every country needs a national stadium because it serves as a symbol of national identity. In an international match, what do people see the most, because legends come, important people come to such matches, like in a final of any European league or cup? In fact, you see a good airport, a good hotel and a good stadium, that’s all someone who comes, can see for that time\u2026 I would like to see the construction of the national stadium begin during my time,” Ademi emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, emphasizes that the construction of the stadium that would have about 25 thousand seats has no alternative and should not be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We can call that stadium a city stadium, a national stadium, but it must have over 20 thousand seats, so there is no room for debate here. The absolute minimum is between 25,000 and 30,000 seats, there is no doubt here, this is mandatory and I believe we must resolve this issue as quickly as possible. At least let’s start because the days are passing, time is flying, and we as the Olympic Committee are naturally very concerned because we want the work to begin as soon as possible and be carried out without unnecessary stress\u201d, Krasniqi stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to football coach Ismet Munishi, the stadium would not only be a ‘facility’ that would offer comfort to fans, but would also be a symbol of national pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf course we need a national stadium, we really need it, we are seeing what kinds of stadiums are being built around the world, it is not only a facility that provides comfort to our fans but at the same time it also gives a kind of pride if it is built with national motives and if it is built in the best possible way then we can freely be proud. Let’s not forget that the country is represented in many ways, in sports, cultural ways, it is also represented with a very good stadium that could probably be talked about a lot\u201d, emphasized Munishi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So far, not a single cent has been allocated from the budget nor has the location been nor has a location been selected for the construction of the stadium, while the government has already committed \u20ac250 million for hosting the Mediterranean Games in 2030. \/A.
