Members of Parliament will gather again today for another attempt to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo. This is the 22nd attempt since April 15, when the constitutive session began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In previous sessions, there was no quorum for decision-making regarding the commission for secret voting. The proposal\u2014repeatedly made by the session chair, Avni Dehari\u2014for the voting process to be conducted in secret has not received support from other parliamentary parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement, it has also been proposed that the continuation of the sessions not take place every 48 hours\u2014as required by the Assembly’s rules\u2014but instead once a week, according to KosovaPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issue of constituting the ninth legislature has stalled over the vote for the Speaker of the Assembly, as the leading party from the February 9 elections, Vet\u00ebvendosje\u2014together with Guxo and Alternativa\u2014has not been able to secure the 61 votes needed to elect Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo have demanded a change in the proposed candidate, while the Democratic League of Kosovo has expressed opposition to any proposal from the Vet\u00ebvendosje Movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an effort to unblock the situation, on May 15, President Vjosa Osmani met with representatives of political parties, but no agreement was reached on constituting the Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calls to resolve the deadlock have also come from the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of European Union diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, on May 22, called on politicians in the Assembly to cooperate to unblock the situation, according to KosovaPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
