She announced that last year, over 10,000 girls were vaccinated with the HPV vaccine, and this year, more than 13,000 boys and girls have been immunized.

“Not only do we promote the importance of vaccination, but we are also committed to increasing awareness, improving access, and strengthening citizens’ trust in the safety and effectiveness of vaccines… The expanded immunization program has been considered a successful process in the field of public health. The implementation of the expanded immunization program is one of the priorities of the Government of Kosovo, aiming to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases, with the goal of fully including all communities living in Kosovo. The Ministry of Health ensures financial security for the immunization program through the provision of vaccines,” she said.

Ardita Baraku also declared that vaccination contributes to the improvement of population health. She emphasized the need for health education and accurate information on immunization.

“Vaccination contributes to the improvement of population health, both in general and in specific groups. First, we start with children, which is why we do mandatory vaccination for children, since they have the most fragile immune system… The accuracy of information on immunization is always important, but there are cases where parents hesitate to vaccinate their children because they do not have clear information and are unsure about vaccination. Thanks to a lot of work, the number of those who hesitate is small in Kosovo, but this highlights the importance of health education,” she emphasized.

Edita Goranci-Haxhiu from the World Health Organization said that Kosovo is an example of a high vaccination rate. She raised concerns about the global lack of immunization for children with the measles vaccine.

“The challenges we are facing are presented by the WHO, noting that 22,000 children have missed the MMR vaccine against measles and rubella. In the same year (2023), 10 million new cases of measles were reported, and as health professionals, we do not accept this fact because the vaccine is very effective, very safe, and can be administered at any family medicine center, free of charge and without an appointment… The success of vaccination in Kosovo is a good example for many European countries, with a very high vaccination coverage and a calm situation for diseases that can be prevented by vaccines,” she emphasized.

As part of Immunization Week 2025, a series of activities have also been carried out in Kosovo to raise awareness about immunization in many municipalities.

In conclusion of the World Immunization Week, it was emphasized that vaccination contributes to a healthy society.
