About 250 returnees, most of them members of the Serb community, live in 12 villages in the municipality of Klina. Due to lack of employment and aging population, their lives have become difficult.
The official of the community office in this municipality, Silvija Raskovic, says that life is difficult especially for young people not only of the minority communities, but also of the majority Albanian community.
“I have to say that all communities, both majority and minority, have a difficult life. First of all, due to the lack of employment, we here in Klina do not have a bigger factory for work, everything is about the private sector. It is even more difficult for the Serb community, our whole community is almost engaged in agriculture, and most of them are old, so it is very difficult. It is even more difficult for the young people, almost none of them work, only two are employed in the Municipality of Klina, and two women are employed in the private sector in the ‘Eva’ meat shop”, said Raskovic.
As for the return, she says that today the situation is more difficult, with much difficulty people are deciding to return.
“With great difficulty people are deciding to return, 21 years have passed, people have found work there in Serbia, children are being educated. And mostly, if there is interest, the elderly will return. Even though we still have 280 requests for return, but those people who submitted those requests are more or less uninterested, they just submitted the requests and nothing more”, said Raskovic.
She says that the transparency of the Municipality of Klina and the respect of language rights is at a satisfactory level, although sometimes there are problems.
“Sometimes there are two languages, let’s say there are use the two languages in the civil status office, it is enough to ask, but mostly they issue letters in Albanian. However, to get the letter, you just have to ask to receive it in your own language. We have a municipal translator who translates everything, just ask to receive it in your language”, says the official for communities in the Municipality of Klina, Silvija Raskovic.
In addition to the difficult economic situation for everyone in this municipality, the social and cultural life is also difficult for minority communities, because there are fewer and fewer such events.
