The American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has stated that the strong connections and commitment of the United States of America to the people of Kosovo, is from President Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden and President Trump.
Hovenier made these comments at the ceremony organized near the statue of President Clinton, in Prishtina, where the American President’s Day was also marked.
Ambassador Hovenier, while explaining how this holiday was created, said that United States embassies and consulates around the world celebrate the American presence and their connection to the world outside the United States.
Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that marking the American President’s Day in Prishtina also marks the spirit of democracy that they represent and have generously shared with the world, which has had a profound impact on our journey as a country.
According to her, leaders from George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, from Franklin Roosevelt to Bill Clinton, to the present day, have not only shaped the destiny of their country, but have also left a beacon of hope for democratic aspirations around the globe.
According to her, from our struggle for freedom and independence to building our strong, stable and democratic institutions, the United States has stood by us, offering support, guidance and friendship.
Osmani added that just yesterday they commemorated another special day, the day of recognition of independence by the United States to the Republic of Kosovo, through an extremely strong and supportive message from President Bush, who was the first president to receive a delegation from The Republic of Kosovo after the declaration of independence.
Alternatively, this holiday was first created in 1885, and started as a celebration of recognition of only one president, the 1st President of the United States, George Washington, and later is celebrated in all countries where the US has its embassies.
