A new variant of Mpox monkeypox was discovered in a patient in the Wallonia region of Belgium.

According to the "Sciensano" Health Institute, this is the first case of a new Mpox variant in Belgium.

The patient was infected as a result of sexual contact with a person who had symptoms of the virus in Africa and that person was isolated before being diagnosed.

The new variant that was discovered in Belgium is more contagious than previous variants of the virus.

On August 14, the World Health Organization declared Mpox a "public health emergency of international concern".

The virus was previously detected in Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, the United States and some Asian countries.
