Center back Stefan de Vrij has said Inter must 'defend as a team' to neutralize Manchester City star Erling Haaland in the Champions League. The Nerazzurri were hoping to pick up three new points against Monza on Sunday in Serie A to kick off an extremely difficult week in their fixture list, but they were held to a 1-1 draw.
On Wednesday, the champions of Italy travel to face Manchester City in the Champions League, then they will face city rivals Milan in the "Derby della Madonnina" next Sunday in Serie A, KosovaPress reports.
"There are no alarm bells, we just have to learn from the mistakes we made today. At times we were too slow moving the ball around and could have been sharper on the final pass. If you break the deadlock against these teams, everything becomes easier, but we tried to find the goal."
De Vrij was asked how he and his teammates hope to stop Haaland, who has scored nine goals in four games this season.
"You have to work as a team to limit him, but also remember that Manchester City is not just Haaland. He is in good shape and has scored a lot this season, but we have to defend as a team," said De Vrij in the end.
