The Central Election Commission had initially planned for the counting of votes for parliamentary candidates and reconfirmation for political entities to begin today at Municipal Counting Centers across the country, but this did not happen.
This count is starting today at 16:00 PM only in 4 municipalities of Kosovo, precisely in Pristina, Lipjan, Obiliq and Partesh, while the count is expected to start tomorrow in the other 34 municipalities.
The delays in starting the counting of votes for political entities and candidates for MPs at the Municipal Counting Centers are being considered a failure of the Central Election Commission and a violation of the Law on General Elections by this institution.
Member of the Central Election Commission, Arianit Elshani, stated that the delays in the start of vote counting at the NEC occurred due to technical issues.
He insists that everything from this counting process will be published on the CEC's online platform. The CEC member from the PDK ranks assures citizens and political entities that the votes are safe and have not been tampered with.
But, according to the Democratic Institute of Kosovo, the Central Election Commission has failed to start the vote counting in the Municipal Counting Centers on time, as required by law.
Vullnet Bugaqku from KDI says that this failure is undermining public trust in the work of the Central Election Commission.
Bugaqku emphasizes that delays in starting this process could also delay the certification of the results of the February 9 general elections.
With the new law on General Elections, the counting of votes for candidates for deputy will be done in the Municipal Counting Centers, which are located in each municipality of Kosovo. In previous elections, this process took place in the Results Counting Center. On February 9, after the voting process ended, the Central Election Commission had problems with its electronic platform.
