The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, has said that the official price list of medicinal products will come into effect on February 1st.
He said that through this, citizens will have medicines at cheaper prices and the same prices.
However, Vitia, at the press conference after the government meeting on Friday, said that he expects that in the first months there will be resistance and a slight shock to the pharmaceutical market, but underlined that they are determined not to withdraw from the implementation of the Law on the Unification of the Price of Medicinal Products.
"Finally, Kosovo citizens are enabled to have fair access and fair prices for medicines. All stakeholders have been informed without distinction and the law will begin to be implemented. All the meetings we have had, not only with pharmacies but also earlier during the drafting of the law and other phases. Now, from February 1, this law will enter into force. Today, I will have a meeting with the Pharmaceutical Inspectorate and invite all entities to implement the law, despite the challenges they may have at the beginning. This is a law for citizens and it is a fair law. Of course, those who do not implement it will be subject to adequate measures. There is a group of companies that have not submitted the specified medicines for application for the prices of their medicines according to legal requirements. Measures and sanctions will be taken against them based on the current law. This is an unstoppable process and we are determined to see it through to the end", emphasized Vitia.
On the other hand, the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, said that he does not know whether any support with high financial value has been suspended by the decision of the United States of America to stop the implementation of international assistance programs. However, he expressed optimism that after re-examination or re-evaluations, it will be concluded that Kosovo is one of the best allies of the United States.
