From Kosovo and across the border, hundreds of citizens are paying homage at the "Adem Jashari" memorial complex in Prekaz. Under patriotic sounds, with the colors of the national and Kosovo flags, the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's independence is being marked in this legendary place today.

Haki Gërguri from Fier, Albania says that the blood of the Jashari family should not be misused by those in power.

"The blood of the Jashari should not be violated or misused by the mandates of those in power. A man who has fought, the entire Albanian people in general have contributed, whether it is those mothers who have cooked for the soldiers, those brothers and sisters who share our blood, a contribution is called one who has played a role. I think this war, Prekazi is the cradle of the brave, it is the cradle of freedom. We, the "dead", have come to see the "living", one day we will die, maybe nothing will be written about us, but they are not dead and will never die because they will be remembered for hundreds of years for the contribution they have made", he says.

Dife Vladi from Vlora, around 70 years old, visits the legendary Prekaz for the first time.

On historical dates for the state of Kosovo, Nazif Visoqi comes from Istog to Prekaz, to honor the sacrifice of the heroic family.

"This place for us is a sacred place for the entire Albanian nation... I remember [independence] with the greatest pleasure that we gained freedom thanks to the blood of martyrs, first of all the Jashari family, all the others and the martyrs of the nation," he says.

However, he considers that the legacy of the fallen martyrs has not been achieved.

Heads of state and leaders of political parties in the country have also paid tribute at the "Adem Jashari" Memorial Complex in Prekaz.
