The 47th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, who has returned to the White House, during his first term mediated the signing of an agreement to normalize economic relations between Kosovo and Serbia, on September 4, 2020. While his impact on Kosovo's economic processes is expected to be seen even in the mandate he took on January 20 of this year.

Economic experts in Kosovo have different opinions regarding Trump's impact on Kosovo's economic processes.

Economics professor Ilir Hajdini is optimistic that the 2020 agreement can be reactivated, but he says that "the approach of the next government in Kosovo towards the US will also have an impact."

He believes that if Kosovo has a cooperative and argumentative government with professional people, it will be possible to convince those selected in the Trump Administration to have a positive impact on Kosovo.

Whereas, unlike Hajdini, economic expert Emanuel Bajra is skeptical that the economic normalization agreement signed in September 2020 by former Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçiq, in the presence of the US president, Donald Trump at the White House.

He also emphasized that the greatest risk for Kosovo in the coming period will come from a possible situation in which Serbia refuses to recognize the state of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, he adds that the potential effects on the economy in the region in general will come from the effects it will have if Trump decides to impose tariffs on other countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and others.

Despite once strongly opposing the 2020 agreement, Prime Minister Albin Kuti yesterday told the Spanish newspaper "El Mundo" that the economic agreements reached between the Republic of Kosovo and the state of Serbia, stressing that 'this was the approach of that time, the Trump administration 1, to promote stability'.

The agreement envisages the commitment of Kosovo and Serbia in the construction of road and rail links, to connect their capitals in order to improve the movement of goods and people, developments that could attract Western investment. According to the agreement, Kosovo is obliged to become part of an initiative for movement without passports and tariff obligations, which will include Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia.

The Republican candidate in the presidential elections, Donald Trump, has been declared the 47th president of the United States, securing about 276 Electoral College votes.

In the November 5 race were Democrat Kamala Harris, currently the vice president of America, and Republican Donald Trump, who was president from 2017 to 2021.

Meanwhile, world leaders have welcomed Trump's victory. Even in Kosovo, Trump was congratulated by institutional and party leaders.
