A 51-year-old Irish Liverpool fan died last night while trying to cross the A4 motorway near Bergamo's Orio al Serio airport, reports in Italy claim.

Multiple sources in Italy, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere della Sera, are reporting that a 51-year-old Liverpool fan from Ireland died after being hit by a vehicle on Monday evening.

The fan, whose identity is not yet known, was crossing the A4 highway near the Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo, KosovaPress reports. The 51-year-old had flown to Italy from Manchester and was with two other people who were not at the scene when local authorities found the man's body.

According to Il Corriere della Sera, he was a Liverpool fan from Ireland and had a ticket in his pocket for tonight's Champions League match between Milan and the Reds at the San Siro.

According to the report, he crossed the highway trying to get to the hotel where he would have slept.
