The transition of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic to the new facility two years ago has tripled the number of hospitalized patients, but the variety of services has also increased.
Until earlier, around 100 patients received hospital treatment per year, with the creation of new spaces, over 350 patients have received this type of service this year alone.
For three weeks now, Nazlie Shabani has been lying in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic, after placing a prosthesis on her right leg. After this intervention, she had to receive physical therapy, which eased her health condition.
Shabani tells KosovaPress that her condition has improved after the medical treatment she received at this clinic.
"Very good, we are satisfied, from the doctors, sisters in general, physiotherapy, the most wonderful physiotherapy. Without physiotherapy, this operation of mine will not be successful. For every day that I am here, for the three weeks that I have been lying in the hospital, for every day I have changes in my leg in general, that I have operated on my leg, that I have placed a prosthesis. I am very satisfied at the moment with all the medical staff for three weeks", Shabani emphasizes.
In addition to Nazlie Shabani, until the beginning of December, more than 350 patients received hospital services, of which 60% were post-operative.
The acting director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic, Valbona Krasniqi, says that thanks to better conditions and infrastructure, the quality of physical services has increased.
She emphasizes that with the move to the new premises of this clinic, the number of patients has also increased.
"Of course, the conditions dictate both the way of work and the quality of work. Normally, we have operated in an unsuitable environment, either for the staff, but more so for the patient. However, with the opening of the new clinic, two years of operation in this facility have already passed. Of course, everything has changed, it has changed in the sense of the increase in the number of patients, namely the frequency of the number, as well as the services, in any case, it has increased. I'm just taking an example, until before the new facility we had 100 hospitalized people, today, within a year, we have 357 hospitalizations. It is triple the work we did in the facility where we were", says Krasniqi.
The Clinic of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers more space for more dignified treatment, says the acting director of this clinic, Valbona Krasniqi.
"Compared to where we are, it is incomparable, the conditions were difficult either in terms of infrastructure, or in terms of the equipment or apparatus that we used inside that facility. Normally, when you don't have space, you can't even offer services to patients.... The infrastructure is sufficient, it is suitable both for carrying out work and also for accommodating the staff who are part of the clinic... Every new environment gives convenience either for those who work there, or for those who receive the service of the personnel who provide that service. Even the patients have much better conditions than in the place where we were earlier", she says.
In addition to outpatient and hospital services, with the move to the new facility, the Physical Medicine Clinic has increased the range of services.
Bone density measurement is a service that is offered three times a week to patients from all over Kosovo.
"In our clinic, the osteodesitometry service has also started, which means the measurement of bone density, and the service is offered three times a week as a diagnostic method for osteoporosis. Normally, we also have electroneuromyography, and it is a cabinet that works for patients, not only outpatients, but also for patients from other clinics who need such a service... We are expecting to start with the functional assessment cabinet soon and posturography, a very good service, an important service for patients in the clinic", she says.
In addition to these services, the Clinic of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation also offers consultative services for all other services at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.
Meanwhile, 9 outpatient visits and over 4 outpatient physical therapies were performed.
The Physical Medicine Service in Kosovo has been offered since the 70s. As a clinic within the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, it was opened in 2007.
Meanwhile, from 2022 the physical and rehabilitation service has been moved to the new facility.
