Defense supplier International Armored Group (IAG) will build an armored vehicle factory in the Industrial Zone of the Black Sea city of Burgas. The first construction of the new plant according to NATO standards will take place in March. The initial investment will reach BGN 20 million and the local government in Burgas will finance the construction of the necessary infrastructure.

Preparations for the project started at the beginning of 2022. The new plant will have an area of 150,000 square meters. A photovoltaic solar energy system on its roof will contribute to the plant's energy efficiency.

As quoted by the company's press office, IAG owner Anton Stefov said: "We are happy to have the opportunity to expand our international family with a manufacturing plant in Bulgaria, where we are investing in the defense innovation and experts our country needs. ". Stefov said that this is an important project that will boost Bulgarian industrial production. He thanked the national and local institutions for their competent work that made it possible for the project to start on time.

Bulgarian specialists trained by IAG experts worldwide will manufacture the entire range of IAG products, including the latest Rila 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle. Upon completion of the factory, at least 300 jobs will be created. This will be the first Bulgarian facility to produce armored vehicles that meet NATO world standards.

Major Bulgarian companies that are partners of IAG are contributing to the design of a series of drones protected against electromagnetic interference, which will be used for rescue, surveillance and emergency response purposes. The new products will also be produced in Bulgaria.

IAG's strategy is to invest in Bulgaria's defense industry and the Burgas plant is a step in this direction.
