On November 11, 1918, Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a train car in France's Compiegne Forest.

The fighting officially stopped at 11:00 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, and the day is commemorated annually with a two-minute silence, while the United States has declared November 11 as Veterans Day.

World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.
