65 percent of Kosovo's consumption would have remained without electricity if there had not been timely intervention in the Ibër-Lepenci water channel.
This canal in the village of Varage, Zubin Potok, was damaged as a result of a terrorist explosion on the evening of November 29. Kosovo institutions have said that the terrorist and criminal attack comes from gangs orchestrated by Serbia.
The Ibër-Lepenci water channel supplies water from Lake Ujman to several cities in Kosovo and the Energy Corporation of Kosovo. However, after the terrorist attack, the Public Enterprise "Ibër-Lepenc" cut off the water for several hours for the thermal power plants, and until today also for the citizens of some municipalities. The water reached the power plant only after mobilization and quick intervention in the repair of damages in the Ibër Lepenci channel.
The former director of the main energy company in Kosovo, Pranvera Dobruna-Kryeziu, tells KosovaPress that even the repair of this channel will have costs.
In the event that the Ibër-Lepenci water channel would not have been intervened in time, Dobruna-Kryeziu shows what the amount of imported electricity would be.
"250 megawatt hours per hour, you can imagine how much that costs. It depends on where it is purchased and provided. 250 megawatt hours per hour, that is very early, very early... It depends on how many months 'Kosova B' has to remain without production. 250 megawatt hours per hour is a lot, I can say millions. It depends at what cost we provide energy from import... With this consumption, for example, out of 700 thousand consumers that Kosovo has, 450 thousand consumers were left without electricity. 65 percent of consumers. But Kosovo will not remain without electricity, the citizens must be calm", she says for KosovaPress.
Yesterday, Albania supplied Kosovo with electricity until the evening hours. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy in Albania told KosovaPress that "these are details that will not be made public".
"Within the exchange agreement and cooperation relations between the two corporations, KESH has started since Saturday morning to supply KEK with energy to deal with the situation created with the production units in Kosovo. Based on KEK's request, KESH continued to supply energy until Saturday evening. Albania will continue to offer energy assistance based on the opportunities and free capacities it has for production, but also depending on the free cross-border transmission capacities". it is stated in the answer of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy in Albania.
The Ministry of Economy has not made a statement on this issue on the grounds that such a thing will happen in the meantime.
Kosovo police managed to arrest eight people suspected of this terrorist attack yesterday. The arsenal of weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment and emblems were presented on Saturday in an extraordinary press conference, following a wide-ranging operation.
The emergency expert, Tahir Ahmeti says that this act violates the national security of Kosovo.
Ahmeti: The attack on the Ibër-Lepenci canal was a terrorist attack on critical infrastructure

"The attack on the Ibër-Lepenci channel in the north of Kosovo was a pure act of terrorist attack on the critical infrastructure of Kosovo, also undermining the national security of Kosovo. And as such, it was intended to make it difficult for Kosovo to have drinking water and also to create significant problems and breakdowns in Kosovo's thermal power plants. It is known that they are supplied with water from Ibër-Lepenci. However, thankfully the institutions of Kosovo, those of security and all other actors with an immediate reaction and a common coordination made this impossible". he says.
The former director of KEK, Pranvera Dobruna-Kryeziu, considers that Kosovo should invest more in the energy sector.
As a result of this attack, yesterday there was a water cut in Mitrovica, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Drenas, Fushë Kosovë and Obiliq.
In this regard, Faruk Mujka, director of the "Ibër-Lepenci" Hydro-Economic Enterprise, said that the operation of the channel is 80 percent.
"The current situation is very good, stable, normally I am not talking about a full functionality of the canal because it requires deeper sanin which takes time, but the functioning of the canal is 80 percent, the water supply is at 80-85 percent... With the information I have today, water is supplied to Feronikeli, KEK and the citizens of Skenderaj, Drenas, Pristina, Obiliq, Fushë Kosova, so there will be no crisis regarding water supply and there won't even be an energy crisis because KEK is supplied 100 percent", he said.
The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli has announced that the water supply in the areas affected by the terrorist attack is returning to normal.
Also, the Regional Water Company "Prishtina", has announced that they have started with the Water Treatment Plant in Shkabaj and Drenas.
If the water of Lake Ujman is missing, Kosovo remains without electricity, e Prishtina without heating.
A significant part of Prishtina's residents are supplied by the Ujman reservoir, which is the largest in Kosovo.
Mitrovica, Skenderaj, Vushtrri, Drenasi, Fushë Kosova and Obiliqi are also supplied with water from this part.
