The Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has signed the authorization to allow family members to visit Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj in the detention cells of Durrës, media reports.

Veliaj was arrested on February 10 by investigators from the National Bureau of Investigation, who, by order of the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), presented Veliaj with a security measure, ATSH writes.

The Special Court confirmed the security measure "Arrest in prison" for the mayor, from where he was then transferred from the security block on "Mine Peza" street in Tirana to the detention center in Durrës.

Veliaj is suspected of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", committed in collaboration (9 times) and "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity".
