Slovakia has decided to close its Liaison Office in Kosovo. This is expected to happen on December 31 of this year.

Slovakia - which maintains good relations with Serbia - is one of five European Union countries that do not recognize Kosovo's independence. The other countries are Spain, Cyprus, Greece and Romania.

Despite the decision to close, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo told KosovaPress that the country is committed to strengthening relations with Slovakia, whether through the Liaison Office "but also through meetings in other forums at the regional, European and global level" .

The ministry said that the decision is part of an internal reorganization of Slovakia's diplomatic network.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, based on the clarifications of this announcement, assesses that the decision is part of an internal reorganization of the diplomatic network of Slovakia. Such restructuring of diplomatic networks in accordance with strategic objectives and limited resources is also evident in other countries. Kosovo remains committed to maintaining and strengthening the relations it has developed with Slovakia either through the liaison office or through meetings in other forums at the regional, European and global level", says this response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

And according to the announcement of the Liaison Office of Slovakia in Pristina, after the closure, services for citizens and diplomatic reports will be maintained by Slovak embassies in neighboring countries.

"Until December 31, 2024, the Slovak embassies in Denmark and Norway, the consulates general in Krakow and St. Petersburg and the liaison office in Kosovo will be closed. However, services for Slovak citizens and diplomatic relations will be maintained within the framework of operations by Slovak embassies in neighboring countries", says the announcement of the Liaison Office of Slovakia in Pristina./Sh.
