With winter just around the corner it's important to make some changes to your houseplant routine to ensure they survive.
Accordingly, indoor plants are dormant during the winter months, meaning they are not actively growing. However, they still need the right conditions to survive, such as indirect light and away from sources of heat and drafts. To keep indoor plants healthy, owners can also use cinnamon.
Richard Chesher, a plant doctor at Patch, says it's important to move plants around depending on the type of light they thrive in.
“You'll find that this can be quite different from other seasons, so check what kind of light your plant thrives in and move it accordingly. In a dark, humid climate, mold can develop on plants. Sprinkle some cinnamon around the plant to prevent this,” advises Chesher.
Cinnamon will also keep mosquitoes at bay and is a spice that can help promote growth, making it great for year-round use.
According to the experts at WeThrift, powdered cinnamon is one of the "most effective" ways to kill flies and mosquitoes that attack houseplants.
In addition to mosquitoes, cinnamon is known to repel ants, spiders and various types of flies. It can even help prevent spiders from entering your home due to the strong smell that insects do not like, and in addition to this spice, insects and bugs from houseplants can also be deterred by the smell of oranges, or rather from orange peel.
