Even though they are citizens of Kosovo, Serbs in northern Mitrovica refuse to celebrate the Independence Day of the state where they live, Kosovo.
Most of them have told KosovaPress that they are not aware and do not care, while others, even though they know, do not want to celebrate.
Dušan Milosavljević, a citizen from northern Mitrovica, said that he celebrated the anniversary of Serbian statehood two days ago.
According to him, Serbia's statehood has been destroyed in Kosovo, so in the future, the possibility that Serbs here will also celebrate Kosovo's independence cannot be ruled out.
"I don't really know, I'm listening now, I don't celebrate... Serbia's Statehood Day, yes... It's going in this direction (for the Serbs here to one day celebrate Kosovo's independence). Taken as a whole, Serbia's statehood here has been destroyed, so for sure (one day the Serbs will celebrate too)," said Milosavljevic.Cvetko Bozinovic, another citizen from northern Mitrovica, stressed that today is like any other day for him and he doesn't care at all whether it's a holiday or not. He added that Serbs will never celebrate such a holiday.
Even Perović, a citizen from Zubin Potok, said that today is an ordinary day for him and nothing more.
Otherwise, in this municipality, apart from the solemn session held in honor of Independence Day, there were no other activities, while in the streets of the city, apart from the Serbian flags, there were no Kosovo state flags to give at least a symbolic meaning to this celebration.
